Dr. Jianying Shen, from the Department of Resources and Environmental Sciences, Shanghai Jiaotong University where she has been an Associate Professor in Environment Science since 1997, has joined Professor DiTommaso's Weed Ecology & Management Research Group of Department of Crop and Soil in Cornell University, USA in 2007 as a Visiting Scholar.

Professor Shen's research interests are in the areas of weed biology/ecology, biological control, and integrated management. She is also very much interested in the development of new approaches and methodologies for the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in weed science, plant quarantine, identification and development of beneficial weedy species (e.g. for medicinal purposes), bioremediation of environmental pollutants, integrated pest management, and Plant protection. Dr. Shen’s research has resulted in 80 journal articles, 15 international conference proceedings, 5 books and 4 patent, She is an Expert Member of the Shanghai Science Committee and Shanghai Hazard Evaluation Committee, and has held the post of Director of the Shanghai Institute of Plant Protection since 2002. Dr. Shen has received several awards for outstanding teaching and research.
